The qualification will also enhance skills of learners wishing to apply for work in the mining sector.
Delivery of some electives is dependent on availability of trainers, machinery and sites.

Delivery of this qualification usually takes a minimum of 5 weeks (full time) and up to 6 months depending on how it is delivered (e.g. full time or part-time work based).

To achieve this qualification, the candidate must demonstrate competency in:

Core units of competency:

  • RIIENV201E Identify and assess environmental and heritage concerns
  • RIIRIS301E Apply risk management processes
  • RIIWHS201E Work safely and follow WHS policies and procedures


Elective units of competency:

  • one (1) must be chosen from Group A
  • one (1) must be chosen from Group B
  • at least three (3) must be chosen from Group C
  • no more than (3) may be chosen from Group D
  • no more than (2) may be chosen from within this training package, or from another endorsed training package, or from an accredited course.

All elective units selected from outside this qualification must reflect current occupational and learning outcomes of this AQF qualification level.
